CSAS v3.17: New Analytical Capabilities, Enhanced Workflows and Greater Investigative Confidence

CSAS v3.17 is one of the most capability-rich releases in recent years, introducing new analytical tools, workflow enhancements and platform improvements designed to help investigators identify communication patterns faster, work more efficiently with complex datasets and produce more robust evidential outputs.

Discover Communication Patterns Faster with Sequence Analysis

Sequence Analysis helps investigators uncover linked activity within large call data sets at speed.

Communications data can contain relationships and behaviours that are difficult to spot manually. Sequence Analysis introduces two complementary analytical approaches.

  • Request Sequence Analysis helps investigators identify chains of communication between linked identifiers,

  • while Alternate Sequence Analysis can highlight situations where an unsuccessful contact attempt is followed by communication with another identifier.

Developed for complex investigations, it supports scenarios such as organised crime, County Lines activity, drug line analysis and cases involving device switching or multiple communication pathways.

Modernised Platform, Ongoing Security

Alongside new investigative capabilities, CSAS v3.17 includes significant platform modernisation to Microsoft .NET 10 Long-Term Support. Helping maintain a modern, supported application foundation for future development, security and reliability.

Improving the Way Analysts Work Every Day

Beyond Sequence Analysis, v3.17 also improves the everyday experience of working in CSAS.

The enhanced Single Row View now gives users faster access to key investigative tools within the workflow. Users can launch Cross-Case Searches, perform NMPR lookups and create snapshots without leaving the data under review, while additional fields, record indexing improvements and new record management controls help streamline analysis.

Together, these updates reduce manual effort and make day-to-day analysis simpler, faster and more focused.

Stronger Support for Compliance and Evidential Workflows

As communications data investigations continue to evolve, maintaining transparency, auditability and evidential robustness remains essential.

This update introduces enhancements that support both operational effectiveness and compliance-focused working practices. Cross-Case Search now includes a mandatory search rationale, strengthening audit trails.

The release also includes updated Evidential Wording Guidance, aligned with current FSR Code of Practice Version 2 and DIG200 requirements. This provides practitioners with enhanced support for producing clear, consistent and defensible reports whilst maintaining confidence in evidential outputs.

Additional enhancements to the DIG101 workflow also provide clearer guidance for intelligence-led activity and evidential reporting across different investigative contexts.

Enhanced Mapping, Reporting and Visualisation

CSAS v3.17 also strengthens mapping, cell site analysis and evidential outputs.

New mapping enhancements improve how users visualise communications data, with support for End Cell animation, clearer map labelling and smoother movement from analytical results into geographic review.

Reporting workflows have also been improved through stronger snapshot-based outputs and better retention of associated cell site information, helping outputs more accurately reflect the underlying data.

Together, these updates support a smoother path from analysis to evidential presentation.

Extensive UK Network and Parser Improvements

Behind every successful investigation is reliable data processing.

CSAS v3.17 introduces substantial parser development, with support for new communications data formats and enhancements across key UK network data, including EE, Vodafone, O2, H3G, Lycamobile and GN Rescue.

These updates improve format recognition, data capture and processing consistency, reducing manual preparation and helping investigators work with greater confidence.
