How GMP Uses CSAS to Drive Faster Charges, Stronger Evidence and Safer Communities

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has made CSAS a core part of its operational toolkit. Since adopting CSAS as a routine part of every drugs investigation, the force has seen dramatic improvements in the speed, accuracy, and strength of its cases.

- GMP Customer Statement

From accelerating same‑day charges to dismantling major drug lines, CSAS is directly enabling GMP to work more efficiently and secure tougher sentences for offenders.

Overview

Since April 2025, CSAS has supported GMP in:

  • 118 drug dealer arrests

  • 106 charged the same day - a 90% charge-and-remand rate

  • 200 drug lines identified, seized, and closed

  • 66 weapons recovered

  • 150+ prison years issued to offenders (all guilty pleas)

Every one of these outcomes began with intelligence surfaced through CSAS.

Why CSAS is so critical to GMP’s success

Officers say CSAS allows them to:

  • Quickly determine whether a number is a drug line

  • Rule out irrelevant leads

  • Focus on the busiest and highest‑risk lines

  • Locate the phone/controller using mapping

  • Identify optimal timings for warrants

  • Analyse flare messages to see how busy a line is

  • Build strong evidential files for CPS

This clarity and speed mean investigations begin with solid intelligence from day one and custody decisions can be made far faster.

GMP also highlight that using CSAS’s line valuation features, with support from Scott Fitzmaurice, has contributed to significantly longer sentences this year.

CSAS really is the key to our success. It underpins every investigation, helps us identify drug lines quickly, focus on the biggest threats, locate controllers, and secure fast charges. We wouldn’t get these results without it.
