Introduction

At Forensic Analytics we have an ongoing commitment to academia. This takes shape in many different forms, most prominently in our much-valued partnerships with various universities across the UK and the USA.

Our company was founded on channeling expert knowledge to improve forensic science and digital practices within policing.

Maintaining relationships with universities allows us to build on and enhance our knowledge and professional expertise to provide the next generation of law enforcement professionals with training and tools, that reflect current and emerging trends in technology and criminology. These partnerships with Academia, together with our customers' lived experience in policing help ensure our product development continues to reflect the needs of both current and future generations of law enforcement professionals.

At Forensic Analytics we have several of our own staff undertaking postgraduate studies to improve their own knowledge and expertise. We understand first-hand the importance of education in strengthening law enforcement and look forward to continued relations with the following institutions.

University College London

Forensic Analytics is proud to support University College London (UCL) on their Forensic Science Masters program through delivering lectures and sessions on the Digital Forensic Science and Technology module which runs across a 3-month period. We deliver a series of lectures and workshops for the students covering: Forensic Science and Technology overall, Digital and social media, GPRS, Call Obfuscation, Ethics and Disclosure, the Forensic Science Regulator Code of Practice and a Cell Site workshop.

Further to the delivery of the module, we support students on their final projects/dissertations where their topic relates to our areas of expertise. This involves mentoring, support with practical activities, use of specialist equipment and addressing challenges they may face.

Anglia Ruskin University

We have been working in partnership with Anglia Ruskin University since 2022, on various modules. We have covered many key areas such as violence against women and girls and more recently missing persons.

This year, we collaborated with the Crime and Investigative Studies BSc course. Hannah Thoppuram and Scott Fitzmaurice worked on one of their modules, primarily focusing on missing persons inquiries. The students got the chance to use our new product CSAS Find, to create and track their cases. They used the software to successfully build timelines involving the data that they were given, allowing them to justify their decision-making as they worked towards their summative assessment. Additionally, their lecturer made use of our auditing facility to track what had been stored and to better identify how students were responding to the scenarios.

PACE University

We have been working closely with the Seidenberg School of CSIS and the Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense at Pace University in New York. Where we provide guest speakers and lecturers including at their annual People Trafficking conference for the District Attorney’s and NYPD. The program is led by Associate Professor Darren Hayes with whom we have worked for a number of years. Our CEO Steve Rick sits on the Board of the Pace University Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD).

Our Staff Achievements

At FAL we pride ourselves greatly on building a team of ex-law enforcement professionals and well-respected thought leaders. Some of our team’s most recent academic endeavors include:

Our CEO Steve Rick is pursuing a part-time PhD at Edinburgh University, focusing on how criminal use of technology is outpacing the justice system.

Several of our training teams have recently completed or are undertaking training qualifications:

At Forensic Analytics we strongly encourage the personal and professional development of our people. We are proud to see the enthusiasm our team has for academia and improving their skillsets. It is no surprise that our development of people was praised so highly within our recent Great Place to Work certification.
